V – The 2009 TV Series

I remember being a big fan of the Original 1984 TV show called ‘V’, it depicts ‘visitors’ who apparently come to Earth promising peace and friendship, but were however slowly trying to exterminate us, use us for food and suck all the life out of our planet. I loved the show, I can remember there was “V The Miniseries”, then “V The Final Battle” and then after that, they tried to give us “V The series”. The original miniseries and Final Battle (especially the Final Battle) was fantastic. 80′s TV at it’s finest (if you could call it that). The later V The Series tried to live off the success of the first two shows, but failed horribly – I remember turning off at that point.

Now ABC have commissioned a ‘reboot’ of the series – Similar to what happened with Battlestar Galactic, Knight Rider, and movies such as Hulk, Spiderman, Star Trek, and the forthcoming Nightmare on Elm Street (out Apr 2010). The first episode aired on ABC last night. Today I watched it… and one word comes to mind… AWESOME!

When I first heard about it I got really excited and couldn’t wait. Several months passed and I almost forgot all about it, until the other day. Furthermore, I didn’t watch any trailers for it until earlier today, and I was glad that I didn’t. It would have made the waiting all that much harder.

If you missed the original show, don’t fear, because this is a reboot, you can basically start from this without knowing the story – and it’s conclusion. I would definitely recommend it. It’s not perfect, the acting is a little shallow, and it can be a little corny in places, but who cares – this is Independence Day meets Battlestar meets Sarah Connor Chronicles (some of the connections may be a little loose, but I hope you get what I mean hehe).
